Cutting-Edge Non-Surgical Treatment for Knee Osteoarthritis

Genicular artery embolization (GAE) is an innovative and non-surgical approach that relieves pain for patients suffering from knee osteoarthritis. This minimally invasive procedure is a revolutionary alternative to knee replacement surgery, improving patients' mobility and quality of life.

Advantages of minimally invasive GAE include the following:

Non-surgical Intervention
GAE does not require incisions, general anesthesia, or an extended recovery period, making it an attractive option for patients who wish to avoid invasive procedures.
Retains the Integrity of the Joints
GAE offers the potential to avoid knee replacement surgery by alleviating pain and improving joint function. GAE promotes tissue healing and regeneration, enhancing joint function and increasing mobility.
Quick Recovery
Compared to surgical interventions, GAE is associated with a quicker recovery time. Most patients can resume their daily activities shortly after the procedure.
Minimal Side Effects
Unlike traditional surgical options such as knee replacement, GAE does not require extensive incisions or the removal of damaged tissues. This approach significantly reduces the risk of complications.

Minimally Invasive Treatment for Knee Osteoarthritis

Genicular artery embolization (GAE) is a pioneering solution for chronic, progressive knee pain. The approach involves the selective blocking of the genicular arteries, which supply blood to the knee joint. The procedure is carried out by an interventional radiologist specializing in knee osteoarthritis.

Our specialist administers local anesthesia and makes a small incision near the groin area to insert a narrow catheter into the femoral artery. Using X-ray guidance, the interventional radiologist carefully navigates the catheter through the arterial system until it reaches the arteries that supply blood to the knee.

After confirming the correct placement of the catheter, the physician releases embolic materials through the catheter into the blood vessels. The materials decrease the blood flow to the lining of the knee joint, reducing pain and inflammation.
